Chip and shred this year will be on Monday June 8th!  We will be using the Lefthand Fire Mitigation Crew again as we have in the past.  We will be utilizing the Wildfire Partners system for sign up (they are picking up the tab again this year!).  Based on our speaker at the spring meeting this gives us a bit of a buffer before the pine beetles migrate in early July to get any infected trees out of Crestview.

A few items to remember when making your slash piles:

• Make sure your piles are at the side of the road by 8am June 8th

  • Within a few feet of the road is suggested to not block the road but not make the mitigation crew drag slash excessive distances

• Piles should be as neat as possible with the thick end towards the road

• Nothing over 6 inches, only recent slash (decayed wood does not go through the chipper)

• Please utilize your compost bins with any small clippings as tossing twigs into a chipper is also frowned upon

For those that want to get involved there will be a few volunteer opportunities (email crestview.cerg@gmail.com)

• Pre June 8th help cutting/trimming trees and building slash piles

  • Please no requests for full property mitigation, but if you need a little help here or there, we can find volunteers within Crestview

• June 8th day of chipping help

  • Drag the slash from the roadside pile to the chipper for the Lefthand Mit Crew to toss into the chipper

  • Manage traffic where needed (curves and hills) and clean roadway of left over debris

  • We will have drinks, coolers, lunch, etc. for our volunteers as we have in the past

If you need help on your property with a few things...please email crestview.cerg@gmail.com and we will work with any pre chipping event volunteers to help with smaller jobs.  Again, if you need your entire property mitigated please consult a professional crew (Lefthand Fire has been used I know).  We are volunteers looking to help out not be taken advantage of :)
